“They preach but they don’t practice what they preach.” We all know those who do this, politicians, celebrities, and sadly some priests and bishops. We know those who tell us how to live, but they themselves don’t live the way they should. Jesus tells us today: “Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you, but do not follow their example.” We can’t follow their example. In fact, whenever we correct others and teach them about a good moral life, we need to look at ourselves and with humility and honesty evaluate our own way of living. Observe others, learn, pray for them, but never follow their example if their words don’t correspond to their deeds. “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
