A mother always wants the best for her children -- nothing wrong with that. Mothers love their children and want them to have a good life, a secure future, and generally to be happy. The mother of the two sons of Zebedee also wanted all the best for her sons, but not in this world, but for all eternity. I think most are shocked and even angry when we hear her bold request. However, she must have been a very smart woman. Not only did she believe in Jesus’s teaching, but she also knew that there is no better place to be than close to Jesus. Most parents today would pray for health, safety, and a secure future for their children. But how many actually pray for their child to be with Jesus, close to Jesus -- to be on his left or right, but to be always with Jesus? The mother of Zebedee’s sons knew what was most important -- to be with Jesus always.
