Wednesday of the 31 week in ordinary time ‘b’

I like when Jesus is very clear with his disciples, like in the reading for today. He tells them and us that becoming His disciple is not just a matter of a quick decision formulated out of some emotions. He also states that you can’t become His disciple without thinking about the sacrifices you are undertaking. To following Christ can’t be just a spontaneous decision. And again, Jesus is clear -- before you decide to be His disciple, calculate all the costs that will be required to keep Christ in the center of your life. It will mean that others may hate and persecute you and also that you might need to leave everything behind, all your earthly attachments, and put your total trust in God. Can you do that? If you are not ready yet, then wait, pray, think, and calculate. Jesus wants you only when you are ready to take your cross and follow Him.
