Wednesday of the 5 week in ordinary time ‘b’

I have always believed that it is interesting and even fun getting to know a new person. And when we do get to meet a new person, we won’t know much about him or her until we ask questions like: where are you from? where do you work or go to school? what do you like to eat? and so on. And knowing what the person likes to eat doesn’t really tell you much about them. Some may be vegetarian; others might like to eat mostly meat. But that doesn’t tell you what kind of person this is. What gives you a clearer understanding of the person is what is coming out of the heart of that person. Jesus tells us this clearly today when he says: “Nothing that enters one from outside can defile that person; but the things that come out from within are what defile.” Yes, what we say, how we behave, what are our beliefs, how do we act. These things defile us. So, we need to be careful of the things that come out of our hearts because those are the things that give others a clear view of who we really are.
